Behind the shoot

not only a Nissan

[ Journal ]

The R34 shoot had one idea and nothing else: put a JDM icon in front of Jena’s power station and let the neon blues and industrial steel do the talking.

The brief was a feeling more than a plan: a Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 and the look of an early-2000s street racing film. Everything else was ours to decide.
We chose the power station in Jena as the backdrop, built the colour palette around cold blues and industrial grey, and agreed that nothing modern would enter the frame.

Let the plant do the talking

A car like the R34 only reads when its surroundings push back. We worked low and wide, kept the lens close to the ground and let the pipes, chimneys and concrete fill the frame around it, so the car always looked small against the machine behind it.

Editing to one colour

Red is unforgiving in the grade. Push it and skin turns orange, pull it and the room looks like brick. I set the red once on the widest frame, copied it to every picture, and only corrected skin after that.

If the colour changes between two frames, the story changes too.
